Afghan Jade is a trade name used primarily in the metaphysical and gemstone markets to describe a green variety of serpentine found in Afghanistan. While it is not true jade (which is either jadeite or nephrite), Afghan Jade closely resembles nephrite in color and texture, often displaying soft to medium shades of green with occasional veining or mottling. This material is relatively abundant in certain regions of Afghanistan and has been used for centuries in carvings, jewelry, and spiritual tools. Its smooth polish and rich color make it a popular alternative to more expensive jade varieties, though it's important to note that its mineral composition is distinctly different.
