This dark manganese quartz features rich, earthy tones ranging from golden yellow and deep red to smoky brown and near black. Sourced from the Imini Mine in Morocco, these specimens are prized for their depth of color, natural rarity, and powerful grounding presence. The darker coloration reflects a higher concentration and variation of manganese and iron-rich inclusions, giving each piece a bold, ancient character.

What It Is & How It’s Formed

Manganese quartz forms when silica-rich fluids crystallize slowly within fractures and cavities of host rock. During this process, trace elements, most notably manganese, and sometimes iron, become incorporated into the growing quartz structure.

At the Imini Mine, changing mineral chemistry during formation allowed for deeper saturation of inclusions, resulting in colors that range from honey yellow and rust red to deep brown and near black. These darker hues reflect more intense mineral interaction and longer or more complex growth conditions, making each crystal a geological record of transformation over time.
